Geneva National Resort & Club Expands Lodging

By Sally J. Sportsman

Geneva National Resort & Club, a family-owned golf resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, is a commuter destination an hour-and-a-half northwest of Chicago. In recent years it has been such a popular choice – with 70 percent repeat business — that its owners have constructed some additional lodging, set to open in May.

“The property has been in my family since 1995,” says Garth Chambers, president of Paloma Resort Properties, which owns and manages the resort. “We are building a limited-service boutique hotel that takes advantage of the full-service opportunities across the resort, with an intimate feel at all of our touch points.”

The golf-centric resort appeals to families and groups that usually stay two or three nights to play the three golf courses. The new accommodations supplement the Inns of Geneva National, which the family acquired in 2011. Each of the two new buildings has 16 suites ranging from 630 to 850 square feet, with oversized windows overlooking the Geneva National fairways. Features include in-room coffee and wine bars, private decks and patios with plush seating, bathrooms with double vanities, large showers with windows and water closets with private doors. There are no kitchenettes, a strategic decision made so that guests will frequent the resort’s restaurants.

“The new lodging has a different feel, intended to cater to a different customer,” Chambers says. “The idea is not to cannibalize one set of accommodations over the other.

“The resort guest makes the choice.”
